It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mel “Melvis” McGhee. On September 23, 2016 Mel passed away at the Royal University hospital in the comfort and love of family. On September 2nd 1964, Lillian and Andrew McGhee gave birth to Mel in the small town of Empress, Alberta. Mel attended high school in Saskatoon at Walter Murry. After graduation Mel became an inspiration to the community as a professional wrestler who traveled all across North America participating in WCW, IWA, Can-Am, AWA, Renegade, HIW, POW and the NWA under the name “The Dream Warrior”. When he received a contract for the WWE, Mel decided to instead focus on his family where he raised three caring children Steven, Presleyanne and Keanu while attending university. Mel’s compassionate nature drew him to social work where he worked for over twenty years advocating for children. During his time is Saskatchewan Mel developed a connection with the Whitecap community and later became adopted into the Bear family where he received his name Mato Mani Wicasa (Walking Bear Man). Mel’s spirited personality and his strong, and reliable demeanor drew together the love and friendship of countless individuals. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Larry McGhee, Frank McGhee, Danny McGhee, Jessy McGhee, Cathy McGhee, Marvella McGhee and his children Steven McGhee, Presleyanne McGhee, Keanu McGhee, as well as long-time friend and business partner Barb Romanow, and beloved dog Memphis McGhee. He will be missed by many friends and relatives. The celebration of life will be at the German Club, 160 Cartwright Street East, Saskatoon on September 29th, 2016 at 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
