Lise Fortier, age 47, born and of Saskatoon died on June 2nd, 2023.
Lise is survived by her husband, her parents (J-Michel & Dorothy Fortier), her sisters (Paula & Laura Fortier), her nephews, her niece, and loving in-laws.
After graduating from Bishop J Mahoney HS in 1993, Lise studied at USask. She then attended Dalhousie University to pursue her goal to become a librarian. Lise worked at Saskatoon Public Library for over 25 years. She enjoyed working with the public and providing them with the services they needed.
Lise loved stories in all formats: books, movies, TV shows, and told. Hearing stories and recommendations for books, movies, and TV shows from friends and strangers always entertained her. It was a great way to expand her knowledge and expose her to new interests.
Gaining new experiences was something Lise sought. Learning new skills was always a pursuit. Lise learned how to sew, which allowed her to add dresses to her already extensive collection and to create items for her home. She had a friend teach her how to cross stitch so she could make fun gifts for the people she knew. She also took Spanish lessons to use on her travels. Lise looked for adventurous activities to try as well, like ziplining in the mountains, surfing, and white-water rafting. She was open to new experiences. Lise enjoyed cooking and baking. She kept growing her recipe collection. She and her husband were fond of supporting local restaurants and searching out new places to eat. On their travels, they would seek out good places to eat with a focus on local cuisine. Sometimes Lise would be inspired to try to make similar meals at home, as long as it was not too complicated. Lise loved food.
Lise was lucky to make good long-time friends, many who live in other parts of Canada. This allowed her the opportunity to visit almost every province and territory, all except the Yukon. She loved to travel and explore new places. Lise’s husband was a wonderful travel planner and arranged for them to visit many of the destinations that they wished to see. She also had some friends who would travel with her or invite them on their excursions. They knew Lise would often take them up on these offers. Lise had fond memories of traveling with her family to Maui and spending time with her in-laws in Mexico. She appreciated these moments to spend time with family in new environments and have shared adventures.
A prayer vigil will be held on Wednesday, June 7th at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 8th at 10 a.m. Both are to be held at St. Anneβs Catholic Church on Lenore Drive. All are welcome.

I worked with Lise at SPL in the early days of her career. She was a wonderful human being and a caring and enthusiastic librarian. I am so sorry to hear of her death. Condolences to her family.
Lise will always be remembered; such a special person.
Please accept my condolences. Iβm very sorry for your loss.
Dear Dorothy & Paula,
Thinking of you both during this difficult time of loss.
Chandra
Lise was such a gem to work with and she will be missed. May the memories you share bring you comfort. God Bless.
I was so saddened to hear this news. Lise was always such a wonderful person and beautiful in every way possible.
I wish her family peace and the gift of community as you go through this time. There likely has never been lovelier soul around.
Lise was an exceptional librarian. Her willingness to support the work of building community partnerships will have a lasting impact. She engaged children and adults. Every session stared with – My name is Lise. It rhymes with cheese and sneeze. Children asked when the cheese lady would be returning to our school libraries.
During these difficult days, find solace in her beautiful laughter, gigantic personality, and desire to make this world a little bit better.
Lise was one of those few people that always thoughtful, kind , to all she met and knew. The world is a lesser place without her .
My condolences to Kevin and to the family of Lise, of whom she always spoke with love and affection. I worked with Lise for several years at the Cliff Wright Branch of Saskatoon Public Library. Lise was a highly-regarded librarian. She was personable, easy-going, and smart. She was service-oriented, and worked well with staff and with the public. She was ever-cheerful, helping make every day pleasanter. She did her job with good ability and good humour–a lovely young woman and an excellent librarian. She will be missed.
Lise was a rare gem. Funny, silly, kind, innocent, loyal, authentic. She was an amazing human and a privilege to have as a friend. All my condolences to her family. I will always remember the fun times we shared and hold her in my heart π
Deepest condolences. May happy memories of Lise bring you comfort during this difficult time. Peace and love

I am so sorry to hear of Lise’s passing. She was a lovely and engaging person, and an excellent librarian. I enjoyed working with her at Cliff Wright. She will be missed at SPL and by all who knew her. My condolences to her parents, her sisters and her family and friends.
One more memory of Lise: while she told some people she was Lise, rhyming with cheese and sneeze, at Cliff Wright Library she would say, “LIse, like please.” Our other wonderful librarian at the time was Saache, “like beige.” Also, to Laura: you did a terrific job of the eulogy. So difficult, but extremely well done.
I am very grateful for Lise’s kindness and generosity, helping me find my footing in Saskatoon so many years ago when living there for the first time (she helped me find my first apartment and do a thorough spring cleaning), introducing me to the incredible Fortier family and including me in gatherings with her friends.
My deepest condolences to you Mr. Fortier, your wife and your family on the passing of your dear daughter. May God provide you with comfort and peace at this heartbreaking of times.
(I am a former student back in the Holy Cross Days)
