Patricia Albina Slywchuk (nee: Gruza) December 4, 1942 to June 14, 2020,beloved mother of Todd and Darren (Faith), grandmother to Shelby (Mitchell), sister to Laurie (niece Cheryl), and many other relatives and dear friends, passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul’s Hospital at the age of 77. She was predeceased by her mother and father Sophie & Steve, her brothers Elmer and Raymond and her nephew Parris.
Pat was born in Saskatoon, SK and spent her younger years growing up at the farm house near Prud’homme where she helped raise her brothers and sister while her parents tended to the farm. Pat worked very hard her whole life. At the age of 16 Pat graduated from the Marvel Hair Studio where she became a hair dresser. She also worked at the Forest Grove Service Station for many years and then spent the last 20 plus years of her life working in the beauty/cosmetic department at Shoppers Drug Mart until she retired at the age of 75. Pat was well respected by coworkers and customers alike and made many lifelong friends while working there whom she cherished. Everyone loved Pat!
Pat had many dogs over the years that she loved and treated like they were her children. She was also a wonderful dog grandmother to Jimmy and treated him like he was her own. Her dogs were her life! Princess Kayja is going to miss her mom dearly.
Pat was a very loving person who treasured her family, especially her boys Todd and Darren (who I’m sure over the years gave her some headaches and some grief); she was always there for them no matter what and they were equally there for her whenever she needed them. She loved cooking and making holiday meals for Todd, Darren (Faith) and Shelby (Mitch). Her perogies, cabbage rolls and beet niks will never be surpassed. She loved talking to her sister Laurie on the phone, sometimes multiple times during a day. Those ladies could sure talk.
Pat also loved gardening and took a lot of pride in her yard; it was always immaculate. Shelby always called her grandma with questions about flowers and gardening, trying to learn all the plant names as Pat knew them all. Shelby and Pat made many special memories together gardening, shopping at Cleo’s, and their weekly grocery shopping trips together. Pat always referred to Shelby as her Guardian Angel which was evident with everyone that knew her.
Pat took great care in her appearance, she was one classy lady and was always dressed to the nines. Her niece Cheryl used to call her the Hot Chihuahua.
Pat held a special place in the heart of her niece Rhona, Dave and their family. They lovingly referred to aunt Pat as “Trish”; she was like a mother to Rhona and they had many wonderful visits together over the years. Pat would always say to them “love you sweetie”. Pat will be deeply missed and they will carry her in their hearts always.
Pat was as beautiful inside as she was outside, always loving and caring for others. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all of the people that she crossed paths with in her life.
Donations in Pat’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A gathering of family and close friends will be held at a later date.
