It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Hein on February 8, 2025. Bill lived 84 years full of love, laughter and cherished memories. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Bill was born on July 6, 1940, to Anna and George Hein, in their family home near Osler, Saskatchewan. After graduating from school in Osler, he worked for a short time doing road construction before finding his calling at Intercontinental Packers (Mitchell’s Foods) where he worked for 44 years.
He met Linda in the fall of 1965, and it was clear that he had found his soulmate. They were married 2 years later and began building their lives together. They bought a home in Saskatoon and welcomed their daughter Tracy in October of 1970. It was clear that he was head over heals for this bundle of joy. In 1972, their family of 3 became 4 with the arrival of Kevin. A healthy baby boy was the perfect addition to their busy little family. As there was room for more, in 1977, Sheldon was born and they knew that their family was perfectly complete.
With three young ones, Bill and Linda made their children their top priority. A lifetime of memories were made with camping, vacations, time on the homesteads, sporting events and family holidays. Bill was a proud father, and his children brought him tremendous joy, and Tracy’s passing in 1991 was devastating and Bill and Linda worked hard to ensure that their children knew they were loved and cherished.
Kevin married Laurie and the arrival of their daughter Megan opened a new chapter, and a new opportunity for fun and games. Sheldon married Jamie and two more grandchildren, Kaden and McLaren, were welcomed into the family.
The retirement years became a time for independence and exploration. Highways became gateways as they planned their vacations and adventures. Those trips eventually lead them to pack their bags and make Kelowna their home base. They were in Kelowna for 13 years, where Bill and Linda literally climbed mountains and made lasting friendships.
The addition of his great-granddaughter, Caydence brought them back to Saskatoon. She had lassoed his heart and he was game for all of her adventures. They could be found walking hand-in-hand in the garden, colouring, storytelling and playing games.
Through all of his adventures, Linda was his constant companion, and they cherished all of their years together.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Tracy Hein, his parents George and Anna Hein, his brothers Abe, Jacob, and Cornie and his sisters Eva, Kay (Haugen), Susie (Paseznak), and Mary (Friesen).
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his children, Kevin (Laurie), Sheldon (Jamie), his grandchildren, Megan,(Jordan), Kaden (Darby), and McLaren, his great granddaughter Caydence, his brothers Jack (Shirley), Alfred (Helen), Leonard (Sandra) and Denis and his sisters Margaret (Dave), and Linda as well as many other family members and friends who will dearly miss him.
A celebration of his life will be held at Cherished Memories in Martensville on Saturday, February. 15, 2025 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Diabetes Canada.
Rest in peace Bill. We will forever carry you in our hearts.
