Eileen Adamson, age 90, passed away in the Saskatoon Convalescent Home on March 5, 2024.
Eileen is survived by daughter Beth, grandchildren Emma and Colin, great grandchildren Remi and Mack; daughter Ann (Grant), grandchildren Nathan and Matthew; son Douglas (Julia), grandchildren Laura and AJ; son Kenneth (Susanne), grandchildren Holly, Jacob and Pearl; sister-in-law Dalene; and her little brother Jan-Mark (Sharon). Eileen was predeceased by her husband Blake, her parents Carl and Norah Gustafson, sister Margaret, infant brother Richard, and brother Barry.
Eileen was born on August 21, 1933 at Imperial, SK. She attended Imperial School where she made lifelong friendships with Vi (Code) Rintoul and Lorraine (Norum) Fish. After business college in Saskatoon, she worked for the Star Phoenix. Eileen later volunteered as a librarian at Estey School.
On October 6, 1955, Eileen married Blake Adamson, the love of her life. Their marriage of 66+ years was an inspiration to all who knew them. Lots of hugs and long walks together. Love of family and friends and love for each other.
Our fondest memories of Eileen include:
Gatherings of family and friends and the delicious meals she cooked from less expensive cuts of meat. Somehow there was always room for one more in their modest home. There was always a bridge game underway, or 9-5-2 if there were only three people. Honeymoon whist if there was only Blake and Eileen. And board games if there were many.
Eileen’s love for her kids and grandkids and support for them even if she didn’t agree with their decisions.
Camping – the more rustic the better. Tarps covering the entire campsite. Pan-fried fish fresh from the lake. Smoked fish. When Eileen tired of fishing, she would paddle the canoe for Blake. Campfires and singalongs. Her vigorous renditions of “Knees Up Mother Brown”. Slipping out in the moonlight in their canoe at Ness Lake to enjoy the quiet of nature.
Family trips to the various parts of Canada and the US. Later in life, trips to New Zealand, China, Italy, Cuba and England.
Knitting and needle point and a voracious reader. The encyclopedias were always close at hand.
Eileen’s sense of adventure. As a teenager, going for a ride in an acrobatic biplane at a Sports Day. If her father only knew. At the age of 80, skydiving with her son, daughter and grandson.
Daily walks with Vina Edwards and Friday evening bridge games with Bob and Vina.
Eileen’s love of dogs, especially Bernie towards the end.
But most of all, Eileen is remembered for her ability to create abundance out of scarcity. It was just her way.
In keeping with Eileen’s wishes there will be no funeral.Visits: 58
