In the early afternoon of Sunday, February 18, 2024, Liz suddenly passed away at her residence in Saskatoon. She has joined the Lord, but will now also be happily reunited with her mom, dad, brother, and Mr. Red.
Elizabeth was born in Ottawa on March 13, 1947 the first of four children of Arthur and Claire (nee Bergeron) McCracken. Liz was predeceased by her parents Art (2007) and Claire (2008) and her loving brother Bruce (2017) (Ann Revells) .
Liz is survived by her brothers Ian (Linda) McCracken, Sudbury, Ontario, and Murray (Charlotte) McCracken of Martensville, Saskatchewan as well as seven nieces and nephews: Michael, Marshall, Deirdra, Katrina, Julia, Suzanne, and Jazmine, and many grand
nieces and nephews. Liz attended many different schools while growing up in Ottawa and she later graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts. Liz continued to Ottawa Teachers College to obtain her teaching certificate. Liz was an accomplished and much-loved teacher with the Ottawa Board of Education (OBE) and taught grade 5/6 exclusively at Mutchmor Elementary School in Ottawa for over 25 years. She also participated in a one-year teacher exchange in Armidale, Australia. Liz was renowned for her contributions to the OBE annual Science Fair and the many schools’ musical concerts she directed. Liz did not marry however she adored her many nieces and nephews, treating them like her own children. Ever the educator, Liz spent many hours with them wandering around museums and attending musical theatre productions, not to mention all the summer afternoons spent poolside. Liz was also fond of many of her students, many of whom became lifelong friends. Liz loved to travel and began exploring the world in her early twenties and continued that passion later in life. Liz will be dearly missed by her family and an endless list of friends who Liz easily had befriended and maintained contact with from all over the world. Liz was an extraordinary, gifted person who loved family, her Church including contributing to many charities, her dear friends, theater, music, travel, and especially her favourite family pet, Red. Liz's favourite quote and which best describes how she lived her life was “The capacity to care is the thing which gives life its deepest meaning and significance.” A memorial for Liz will be held in Ottawa this summer (date to be determined) and she will be buried alongside her parents in Cornwall, Ontario.
