Florence Margaret Afseth

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Florence Margaret (Marg) Afseth (née McConnell) on March 17, 2025, at the age of 86 in Saskatoon. Marg will be deeply missed by friends and family and remembered most as a selfless caregiver in her role of wife, mother and grandmother.

Marg was born and raised in Wilkie, Saskatchewan before moving to Saskatoon where she settled into work as a secretary. Soon afterwards she met Bob Afseth, and together they would experience a love story lasting 66 years. Throughout her life Marg’s focus was always on home and family, and her greatest sources of pride came from keeping a well-organized home, looking after her family and cooking amazing meals. Outside of the home, she enjoyed the competition and friendships that came with sports such as bowling, golf and curling, and worked to support the family masonry business, AMC Masonry, as it’s secretary.

Above all she found joy in her summers at the family cabin on Turtle Lake where through tireless dedication she transformed a wild lakeshore landscape into an inviting atmosphere to relax, host friends and build lasting memories.

In recent years Marg further demonstrated her caring nature in her devotion to Bob’s wellbeing.

Marg leaves behind three children, Barb Afseth, Barry (Alana) Afseth and Guy (Karan) Afseth, and five grandchildren, Taylor Afseth, Tanner Afseth, Cassandra Afseth, Ian Afseth and Spencer Afseth.

She is predeceased by her husband, Bob Afseth, parents William and Clara McConnell, sisters Gladys (Bob) Westwater, Sylvia (John) DeVisser, Dorothy (Denis) Ross and brother Keith (Annette) McConnell.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at the St Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit who provided outstanding care for Marg. Our trust in their competence and compassionate care made this process easier.

At Marg’s request, no public memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
