December 7, 1972 ~ October 18, 2023
We celebrate the life of our dear daughter, sister, cousin, aunt and friend, Gina Collette Smith. Cancer took this beautiful, gentle soul way too soon. Gina entered Heaven on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, the same way she lived her life: with dignity, courage, and peace. We were not ready to say goodbye, but she is an example to all of us on how to accept, with grace and an upbeat spirit, the hand we are dealt. Gina, we are grateful for every day we had with you and will carry your spirit in our hearts forever.
Gina was born in Regina, SK on December 7, 1972, to Ron and Diana Smith. Her brother Croy came along in 1974. The family lived in Regina and then moved to Sturgis, SK. Gina always called Sturgis home and frequently returned to visit family.
Gina spent most of her adult life in Saskatoon, SK. She loved her work at Dodge City and most recently at SGI CANADA. She touched so many lives, made many lasting friendships and always stayed connected.
Gina embraced life with an adventurous spirit that was truly contagious. She loved camping, canoeing, hiking, anything outdoors, and traveling with her many friends and family and her spirit dog, Abbey. Her favourite place on earth to camp was at Waskesiu and she was happy to be able spend time there this summer. She enjoyed fabulous vacations in Nicaragua, Arizona, Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba to name a few.
She also had a passion for her northern trips, canoeing on the Churchill River. She loved reading and was part of a Book Club for many years. Gina also loved to garden and cook. Many have been recipients of her perogies, pickles, salsa, turtles, and other specialties
Gina had the kindest heart and left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are better people for having had Gina in our lives. She will be dearly missed by her mother Diana, brother Croy (Kerrie), nephews Brett, Bryker, Bostin, stepmother Mary Jane, step brother Ryan (Donna),nieces Aybree and Megan, Uncle Rick (Donna), Aunt Donna (Doug), cousins Nolan, Lauren, Claire, Jennifer, Jason, Brad, Angus, Scott, Darryl, Stuart, Lisa, Curtis, and Todd. She touched so many lives and leaves many friends, family and will be especially missed by her BFF Nancy who, along with her mother and brother, was by Gina’s side every step of the way of her journey.
The funeral service will be held at 1pm, on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Elim Church, 419 Slimmon Rd.
Saskatoon, Sk. A livestream link has been set up for anyone unable to attend the service at https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/81003
We all know Gina had a special place in her heart for animals of all kinds. Her beloved Abbey was always by her side. In lieu of flowers, Gina kindly requested that donations be considered to the SPCA or animal shelter of your choice.
