Our hearts are forever saddened at the passing of Gordon Mayer, born on May 24, 1955, who left us after a courageous and brief battle with cancer on February 18, 2025. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Andrea, son-in-law Carl, brother Garry (Lynn), brother-in-law Bruce, brother-in-law Gary (Nancy), and four nephews and their families.
Throughout his life, Gord was known for his unwavering strength and hard work. He took immense pride in building the family’s beloved lake house, a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. Gord enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the agriculture business, where his commitment and passion for the industry made a lasting impact.
In addition to his family and career, Gord had a great love for television, movies, and fishing. He cherished the moments spent at the lake, surrounded by nature and the laughter of family. In recent years, he also contributed his insights and experiences to the Patient Advisory Committee with Saskatchewan Health, advocating for better patient care and participating in the design and patient comfort for a new hospital in Prince Albert.
Despite the challenges he faced in his final days, Gord maintained his remarkable sense of humor, often bringing smiles to the faces of his family and caregivers with his funny faces and spirited expressions, particularly when he was offered ice cream or chocolate milk.
While his relationships with his family were complex, his memory will leave an indelible mark on their lives.
At Gordon’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honour of Gord’s memory to the Palliative Care Unit at St Paul’s Hospital whose care and kindness to Gord and family were remarkable and immeasurable.
Cherished Memories is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Gordon.
