Gordon David Schafhauser was born on October 29, 1947, to George and Beatrice Schafhauser. He grew up on a farm mostly in the Landis, SK district, and for about five years in the Traynor SK district. During his school years he enjoyed playing fastball, especially pitching.
After school he took a course in sheet metal mechanics. While working in his trade he spent several years on the farm at Landis, and then in Saskatoon. Gordon eventually moved permanently to Edmonton and continued to pursue his trade there. After a period, he owned a western wear retail store after which he transitioned into the janitorial service industry which he did until his retirement. He spent his retirement years living on his acreage at Ardrossan, Alberta.
Gordon was a lifelong bachelor. His mom died in 2006 and his dad in 2014. He is survived by one brother, Richard (Marlene), his niece Amanda, and nephew Aaron, one uncle, two aunts and numerous cousins. He kept mostly in contact with his cousin Pat Zimmer, Richard made his first trip to the mountains and the U.S. with him. He also enjoyed going to the Big Valley Jamboree with his cousin Cal Heitt.
He liked to dress up and would often be seen in anything from western wear, leprechaun costumes, to gentleman in full formal wear, including a top hat. He is very much missed by his family, and we wish that we would have spent more time with him.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 11, at 2:00pm at St.Patrick's Catholic Church, Saskatoon, SK.
