After a life well lived with faith and gratitude, and with strength and perseverance throughout the past several years during her illness, God has welcomed our dear Hilda to her heavenly home.
Hilda was born and raised on a small farm in the Borden-Radisson district. She graduated from LCBI Outlook. She began her employment career as a lab technician at the U. of S., then as a dental assistant, followed by many years as a sales associate at The Bay Housewares Department until her retirement in September 2001. She enjoyed her retirement, and, among many other activities, she volunteered at Ten Thousand Villages for several years. As her home was close to Persephone Theatre when it was located on Rusholme Road, she agreed to board visiting actors during their rehearsals and performances. They enjoyed their stays at her home, and many became lifelong friends.
She was a devoted mother, sister, nana, aunt and friend. She loved her home, her yard and her neighbourhood and spent hours walking, visiting with neighbours along the way. She loved having family and friends stop in for a visit. She enjoyed day trips, spending little holidays with friends at Christopher Lake and travelling in Saskatchewan and Alberta for visits with family and friends. She always stayed in touch with thoughtful phone calls, cards and letters.
Hilda was down to earth, generous, kind, compassionate, a good and loyal friend to so many, and frequently to those who really needed one. She nurtured and maintained friendships with her family, and with people in her neighbourhood, at work, and in the churches she attended. She was devoted in her faith, loved art, music, scrabble, crossword puzzles, a good mystery book, a laugh and especially spending time enjoying the great outdoors.
Hilda was predeceased by her beloved son Tim, her parents, her brothers Bruno and Paul, and sisters Jean and Frieda. She will be lovingly remembered by son Mark (Kirsti), daughter-in-law Kathy, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Prairie Lane, Sherbrooke Community Centre, for the kindness, care and support they provided Hilda in her final years. If you wish, please consider a donation to Sherbrooke, or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
**A memorial service in joyful remembrance of Hilda's life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 419 Avenue E North, Saskatoon, Sask. Interment at Radisson cemetery will take place at a later date with private family gathering.
