Dad peacefully passed away surrounded by his children and grandchildren at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
He was predeceased by our Mom (Suzanne), infant son (David James), and his parents (John and Margaret Balazsi). He is survived by his 4 children- Mike (Tammy), Lisa (Tom), Suzanne (Cory) and David (Jocelyn), 7 grandchildren- Gage (Shae), Cole, Spencer, Jackson, MacKenzie, Alexander and Chase, 1 great granddaughter- Sophia.
Dad was born in Hamilton, Ontario, moving to Rabbit Lake, SK at the age of 1. The family eventually moved to Warman, Sk when he was about 12. As a teenager, he met Mom and they were married July 1, 1967. In 1977, they moved from Saskatoon to Martensville and it was then that he found his true passion in life- the Martensville Volunteer Fire Department. He had various jobs throughout his life- the army, Quaker Oats, Eaton's, and the City of Martensville but nothing gave him more joy than sitting in that fire truck- the dept became his heart and soul and he poured everything he had into developing it into what it is today. We say goodbye knowing that he loved us all unconditionally even though we surely drove him crazy! Time to rest easy and ride into the sunset Chief- we love you!
We would like to thank the Martensville First Responders and EMS, RUH physicians, nurses and all other staff in the emergency dept and 6100 as well as the palliative care team for the incredible, compassionate care provided to Dad and to us as a family.
The funeral service will be held on Aug. 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm At Cherished Memories Funeral Home, 591 Centennial Drive North, Martensville. For anyone unable to attend in person, a livestream link has been set up at https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/95989
