Joyce Tucker

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the sudden passing of Joyce Mae Tucker of Saskatoon, on the 18th of July, 2023 at the age of 87 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Darren, grand-daughter Christina (Mike), great-grandchildren Ladainian and Leontina; siblings Ken (Marion), Nina (Florent), Mary (Lauren), as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She was pre deceased by her siblings, Arnold, Phyllis, Alfred Jr., Lois & Lyle; her parents, Alfred and Eva.

Joyce was born on December 14, 1935 at their family farm near Lake Elma, Saskatchewan. Joyce came from a large family and was one of nine children. She attended Blooming School until grade nine, then moved to Radville. There she worked in a cafe until she met then married her husband Duane at the age of 22. In 1962 they welcomed their first child Darren, who was born in Assiniboia. Joyce adored her son and dreamt of a large family, however, she faced the loss of two children in her life. They traveled frequently throughout Canada for Duane’s career until settling in Regina. Joyce and Duane were fortunate to visit many places, including Mexico, Hawaii, England and Alaska. After Joyce and Duane separated, Joyce moved to Saskatoon to be closer to Darren and Christina. Joyce truly cherished her role as a grandmother and played an immeasurable role in Christina’s life. In 2008 she became a great-grandmother to Ladainian and again in 2014 to Leontina. Her great-grandchildren quickly became her most precious gifts on earth and she was excitedly awaiting the arrival of her third great-grandchild, Lincoln, in a few short weeks.

Aside from her significant role in their lives, she also shared her heart with numerous puppies who gave her true companionship throughout her life. Joyce loved Wiggles, Meisha, Maggs, Sparky, Misti, Tinker, Luna, Jimmy and Lucy as if they were her own children and would often be found sitting in her rocking chair snuggling them while watching her soap operas or playing solitaire on her tablet. Joyce spent countless hours on beautiful handmade creations until her arthritis and vision would no longer allow it. She enjoyed cross-stitch, petit pointe and knitting. She took great joy and price in building her gardens which were filled with all sorts of strategically placed perennials and without a doubt, she knew every detail about them. She enjoyed growing vegetables and maintaining an overly stocked pantry of canned goods. Joyce lived a simple but fulfilling life, surrounded by the laughter of her grandchildren and the affection of her puppies. Joyce was always kind, patient and nurturing beyond comprehension. She gave even when she didn’t have much for herself. Joyce had a tremendous impact on those closest to her and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 31, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Saskatoon, SK.
