It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Justin Richard Brooks, who left us far too soon on October 24, 2024, at the age of 43. Justin’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, especially his three beloved children, Oliver, Norah, and Josephine, who were the light of his life. Justin loved being a dad and cherished the experience of exploring the world through books and traveling with his children, creating memories that will last forever.
Born in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, on August 21, 1981, Justin was raised in the North where he enjoyed the outdoors, spending his youth fishing and hunting with his father, Lyle. He carried these memories with him throughout his life. Justin completed his schooling in La Ronge, where he made lifelong friends and laid the foundation for his personal and professional success.
A journeyman electrician by trade, Justin was passionate about his work and took immense pride in it. He was not only skilled but deeply enjoyed sharing his knowledge, often offering lessons and advice to friends and family. His commitment to his craft and his willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of working with him.
Justin’s family was his anchor. He is survived by his mother, Lorna Brooks, who lovingly referred to him as her "baby boy," and his siblings—brothers Jason (Connie) and Ryan (Connie), and his younger sister, Lisa. He was a dedicated uncle to his nieces and nephews: Nikki, Danielle, Dylan Marie, Avery, Konner, Kate, Melanie, Kurt, Kate, Korbin, and Keaton, each of whom holds treasured memories of their time with him.
In addition to his immediate family, Justin is survived by his uncles Lynn Brooks & Mark Studer, his auntie Ollie Harasym, and his close cousins Scott Studer and Sarah Studer, along with her daughters, Halle and Heidi, all of whom he cherished.
The mother of his children, Morgan Baxter-Smith, remains an important part of his life, and their shared accomplishments in raising their children will always be a testament to their bond. Justin also had a special relationship with his long-time friend Kevin Banach and the Banach family Donna, Keian, and his beloved godson, Dane.
Justin was predeceased by his father, Lyle Books; his favorite auntie, Judy Studer; uncle Rick Durocher; paternal grandmother Eleanor Brooks; and maternal grandparents John and Florence Durocher.
Although Justin is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to shine bright in the hearts of those who loved him. A celebration of his life will be held on November 9, 2024, from 5:00–11:00 PM at the La Ronge Legion. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, with food and snacks provided. Beverages will be available for purchase in a casual, come-and-go style celebration.
Justin’s kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in all of us
