Linda Diane Thiessen

January 9, 1947 — December 13, 2024

Saskatoon

It is with the heaviest of hearts, the family of Linda Thiessen announces her passing on Friday December 13, 2024 with family by her side in Saskatoon, SK. Mom is survived by her devoted husband Jake Thiessen of 60 years, their children Bradley (Heather), and Anita (Kevin); grandchildren Jesse (Larissa) and Ashley (Megan). Mom is also survived by her younger sister Leslie (Butch), sister in-laws Cathy, Liz, and Suzanne; brother in-law Bob. Mom is predeceased by her parents Mildred (2015) and Albert (1981), and her middle sister Cheryl (2016). Mom had numerous nieces and nephews, most of who affectionately referred to her as Aunt Lynn.

Mom was born on January 9, 1947 in Moose Jaw, SK to Mildred and Albert; she was the eldest of three daughters. Mom attended school in Moose Jaw until her teenage years when the family moved to Saskatoon, SK. Dad recalls he was driving with a pal when he saw mom walking on the street with her friend, and said “Gee, I’d sure like to get to know that girl”. Little did he know that his pal was going steady with mom’s friend and the rest is history. Mom and dad married on March 7, 1964 at St. Thomas Wesley United Church. Two children later, and the family was off to live in Longview, AB in 1970 – eventually moving to Calgary, AB. Mom worked in the hospital while in Calgary. In 1977, the family returned to Saskatoon and has lived in the same house since their return. Many fond memories with mom are in this house. A few years later, mom found employment with the Campbells at Lumber King (Home Building Centre), a family-owned business that made mom feel like family. Mom worked at “Home All” for 39.5 years; mom’s work ethic was incredible. She worked hard, but loved harder. Mom was dependable in so many different ways, she could find a solution for anything. She was a proud but humble woman.

In 1992, mom and dad became grandparents to a grandson and granddaughter born 9 days apart – mom couldn’t have been prouder. Mom liked short phone calls to check in, something as small as “how’s the weather over there?”, even if you were only a few blocks away. Mom and dad spent many years traveling with family and friends, most notably to Arizona, and to Creston, BC to visit John and Cindy. She enjoyed the views from the passenger seat. Mom was a TOPS Club member for many years, she looked forward to the Wednesday outings and catching supper with the gals after. Mom spent many summers at the lake until finally finding home away from home at Meeting Lake, SK where her and dad looked forward to getting together with family. Mom loved family. Any reason to get together was a good reason for her. Mom adored to tease and poke fun – that meant she liked you. Her smile was infectious and her laugh was contagious. Mom’s heart was big and her personality was bigger. Boy, she is loved. The strength mom demonstrated over the years is truly admirable, especially these last few years. Mom made hard things seem easy.

Mom and dad celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past March. Dad associated the number of roses to the number of years married and never missed a year – mom received 60 red roses this year.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Porteous Lodge for the compassionate care and respect mom received. Also, thank you to Cherished Memories Cremation in Martensville, SK for your kindness, support and care you have provided our family – especially to dad.

At mom’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lung Saskatchewan.

And have a beer and clam for mom.

We miss you and we love you forever Mom, Bumma, Grandma.

Cherished Memories Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Linda's care.
