Lionel Joseph Hubert Lafrenière

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lionel Joseph Hubert Lafrenière on October 24, 2024, at the age of 90. Lionel was born on December 29, 1933, in Prud'homme, Saskatchewan, to Edward and Rose, one of 9 children. Lionel was the beloved twin brother to Leo and a cherished husband to Murielle.

Lionel grew up on a family farm, where he learned the values of hard work and perseverance. Proud of his French-Canadian heritage, he ensured that his three sons—Raymond (Helen), Eddy (Nicole), and Gerald (Tracy)—had the opportunity to attend Francophone schooling, fostering a love for their cultural roots. He took immense pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren: Mathieu, Dafydd, Carys, Anna, Thomas, Nathan, Marcella, and Maribelle, celebrating each milestone and success with joy. He was also overjoyed to welcome his great-grandson, Jericho, and his great-granddaughter, Stella, into the world.

A man of deep and abiding Catholic faith, Lionel believed strongly in the power of prayer and found strength and comfort in his beliefs. His passions included music, art, winemaking, and genealogy, through which he connected with his heritage and family and shared his love for life with those around him.

Lionel’s warm spirit, kindness, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Mass celebrating Lionel’s life will be held at Paroisse Sts. Martyrs-Canadièns, Wednesday, October 30, at 1:00 pm at which family and friends are invited to gather and share their cherished memories. Please join the family for fellowship in the church hall immediately after the service. Interment will follow at the St. Donatien and Rogatien Roman Catholic Cemetery in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan.
