Raymond Walker Newton

September 10, 1956 — March 25, 2025

Raymond Walker Newton, born September 10, 1956, passed away on March 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Raymond was the second son of Arling and Isabel Newton of Hallonquist, SK, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved brother Dwight Newton (Shelley) and their children: Dawna Funk (Mike), Deairra Lynchuk (Josh), Dion Newton, and Darci Newton (Gregory Poelzer). Raymond was also a proud great uncle to Helaina Funk, Emma Poelzer, Elyse Funk, Cruz Lynchuk, Elinor Poelzer, and Lexi Lynchuk.

Growing up, Ray was renowned for his legendary smile, earning him the affectionate nickname "Smiley" from his classmates and teachers—a reflection of the warmth and positivity he radiated throughout his life. He had an eye for quality and a refined taste in fashion, vehicles, and technology, always appreciating the craftsmanship and innovation behind the things he cherished. Ray was ambitious in his pursuits, striving to meet the goals he set for himself in business with determination and dedication. As an entrepreneur, he started a number of businesses and spent 25 years in the collection industry, owning and operating Executive Credit Adjusters and Collector's Inc., where he showcased his leadership and business acumen.

During his youth, Raymond was an avid horseman with a natural connection to the animals he loved. He served as a 4-H Light Horse Club Leader and competed passionately in horse shows, earning numerous trophies and ribbons that reflected his dedication and skill. This lifelong love for horses showcased his adventurous spirit and determination.

In 1967, Raymond and his horse, "Zebra Brandy," were featured in an educational film titled On the Prairies, produced by the Cine-Graphic Division of Regina. Excited about the opportunity, Raymond beamed, "I’m going to be a movie star!" However, after several days of rising early and performing in the heat and dust, he returned home tired and hot, slumped into a chair, and exclaimed, "I don’t want to be a movie star! You don’t have any fun and no time to play!" This memorable experience reflected Raymond's down-to-earth spirit and his ability to find joy and humor in all of life’s adventures.

Raymond's life was driven by ambition, fuelled by his passion, and guided by his relentless pursuit of excellence. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Cherished Memories is honoured to have been entrusted with the care and arrangements for Raymond.
