Robert "Bob" Neil Afseth

March 30, 1937 — October 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert (Bob) Neil Afseth on October 9, 2024, at the age of 87 in Saskatoon. Bob was proud to call Saskatchewan his home for his whole life. He was born on March 30, 1937, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, attended Nelson Rural School, and then graduated from Tech Collegiate in Saskatoon. Shortly after he married Marg McConnell on September 6, 1958, who would be the love of his life for the next 66 years.

Professionally, Bob is best known for his impact on the construction industry over a span of 30 years. He started his career with Masonry Contractors in Saskatoon, before setting off on his own and forming AMC Masonry. His lasting contributions to the industry are many, highlighted by his roles as Chairman of the Saskatchewan Construction Association, President of the Saskatoon Construction Association and receiving the prestigious award of life-time member of the Canadian Masonry Construction Association. After his retirement from construction, he became the first Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Masonry Institute, an organization dedicated to promoting the growth of the masonry industry, including establishment of an apprenticeship program and highlighting exceptionally beautiful and innovative masonry work through its masonry design awards.

Personally, Bob will be fondly remembered for his engaging and outgoing nature where he always seemed to know someone wherever he went. He enjoyed hockey, golfing and spending summers visiting friends for almost 40 years at the cherished family cabin on Turtle Lake. His family was his greatest pride, and he would happily share the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren whenever given the chance.

Bob will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife, Marg, and their three children, Barb Afseth, Barry (Alana) Afseth and Guy (Karan) Afseth, his grandchildren, Taylor Afseth, Tanner Afseth, Cassandra Afseth, Ian Afseth and Spencer Afseth and his brother Bill (Sharen) Afseth and sister in-law, Helen Afseth.

He is predeceased by his parents, Mike and Violet Afseth, and brothers Jack (Verna and Marg) Afseth, Don Afseth and Wesley (Margaret) Afseth.

The family would like to extend deep appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff at St Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit who provided outstanding care for Bob. In lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones may donate to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, or a charity of their choice.

A memorial service is planned and will be announced at a future date.
