In Loving Memory of Simon Gregory Stokalko August 23, 1968 – February 11, 2025 (Age 56)

We are gathered here to celebrate the life of Simon — son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and a true friend to anyone who crossed his path. Simon lived his life with honor and respect, treating everyone like family, whether they were related by blood or not.

He was a caretaker, carpenter, mechanic, pyrotechnician, stagehand, and a lover of life. A big man with an even bigger heart, he embraced every moment and cherished the people around him. He was deeply spiritual in his own way and proudly celebrated his Ukrainian heritage and culture.

For many years, whenever his mom or dad needed medical care, Simon put his own life on hold to ensure their needs were met. He attended medical appointments, provided transportation, and made sure they were always looked after. After his father's passing, he devoted even more time to supporting his mother, including assisting with her move into a senior home.

Though Simon never had children of his own, he found countless ways to include his nieces and nephews in his life. Family gatherings were always filled with food, laughter, and generosity, where both relatives and close friends were welcome at his table.

Growing up in the small town of Mayfair as the son of a farmer and a teacher, Simon gained a wealth of skills—he became a carpenter, fireworks expert, mechanic, livestock and crop farmer, moonshine connoisseur, cook, dreamer, and, most importantly, a proud friend who encouraged others to be their best. Life on the farm instilled in him a deep appreciation for nature. Whether in the countryside or the city, he found joy in daily encounters with eagles, ravens, rabbits, chickens, and deer, often spotting them along highways and back roads during his many travels.

Simon is survived by his mother, Helen; his brothers, Ivan and Mark; his sister, Oksana; many nieces, nephews, cousins of all ages; and those who were blessed to have him as their godfather.

His love for Ukrainian culture was evident throughout his life. From his elementary school days of Ukrainian dance to attending concerts and festivals, he embraced his heritage wholeheartedly. He traveled from coast to coast, taking every opportunity to appreciate and celebrate the beauty of Canada.
