Valerie Deans, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 20th, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family. She was 72 years old. Val is survived by her devoted husband, Harry; her loving daughters, Jenn and Kristy; and her beloved (fur)son, Finnegan. She was a proud grandmother to Noah, Josh, Claire, Ryker, and Emmett. Val is also survived by her sisters, Betty and Margaret, and her brother, Jack. Val’s life was marked by her enduring strength and courage as she battled chronic pain from a life-threatening bout with spinal meningitis and a traumatic brain injury. More recently, she faced the challenges of dementia with grace and dignity. A defining chapter in Val and Harry's life was their brave decision to move from Northern Ireland to Canada to raise their family. This bold move was driven by their desire for a better life and future for their family. It took immense courage to leave behind their home, family, and friends, but their determination to build a new life is a testament to their strength and love for each other. In her career, Val worked as a legal and real estate secretary, where her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic left a lasting impression. She was dedicated to her work and took pride in it. In addition to her career, Val was an active member of her community. When her daughters were young, she served on many boards of directors, including the local daycare, figure skating club, and the parent council at their school. Her involvement and dedication reflected her commitment to creating a better environment for her children and others in the community. Val’s love for the simple pleasures in life shone brightly. She cherished barbecues with family and feeding the birds. She enjoyed reading, watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders and found comfort in a good cup of coffee while being surrounded by dogs. She made the best mashed potatoes and her famous almond tarts were a favourite among family and friends. Val’s heart also swelled with joy during the Christmas season, a time she especially cherished for its warmth and togetherness. A passionate advocate for animals, Val volunteered with New Hope Dog Rescue as a foster mom for a number of years, giving a few dogs a chance at a better life before she became a “foster win” with her beloved Lily. While she was able, she continued volunteering with New Hope in other ways. Her love for dogs began with her father, Andrew McClintock, and she lovingly passed this passion on to her children and beyond. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, warmth, resilience, selflessness, and the joy she brought to those around her.
A Memorial Service to honour her memory will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Cherished Memories Funeral Chapel, 591 Centennial Dr. N, Martensville, SK. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream link has been set up at https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/100105. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Hope Dog Rescue or a local animal shelter in her name.
May she rest in peace, embraced by the love she so generously gave and the simple joys she held dear. May she be lovingly reunited with her cherished pets—Tyke, Anna, Brandy, Reilly, Darby, Lily, Roman, Bella, Cullen and Ellie awaiting her beyond the rainbow bridge.
Cherished Memories is honored to be entrusted with Valerie's care.
